Tips for Bass Fishing Beginners

For this page we decided to bring everything together as far as our many tips and recommendations for bass fishing so beginners can put it all together and learn the basics on how to bass fish, and what they will need to catch the BIG ONE.

First of all lets talk about the different fishing lures and bass baits that you will be using.....

When you visit the local fishing store you will want to find these lures for your tackle box. They are soft baits like plastic worms, spinnerbaits, crankbaits, jigs, and topwater lures like poppers. They come in different colors but we recommend that beginners start with yellows, greens, and reds with stripes. These colors will work great and beginners will not have to invest alot of money to start fishing. Live baits like worms, crickets, and nightcrawlers also work great at catching bass, but are rigged up differently and will require weights, hooks, and bobbers for your tackle box.

Now we will explain how to use your lures and baits with bass fishing techniques.....

Bass Fishing Tips with Plastic Worms -
We recommend you cast out and let your plastic worm hit the bottom. Then go ahead and reel in the extra slack before giving it a few tugs. Next, slowly start to reel in the worm then stop. Give the bass a chance to swim up to it, then give it a few quick pulls. Continue to do this over and over until you have the plastic worm reeled back in.

Bass Fishing Tips with Spinnerbaits -
The technique used for spinnerbaits is not at all complicated. We recommend you simply cast it out and let it sit for a few seconds before slowly reeling back in, or as soon as it hits slowly start to reeling back in. Nothing real fancy here.

Bass Fishing Tips with Crankbaits -
We think the best technique is to cast them out and bounce them off logs or lilly pads. Next, give a pause for a second or two so the bass believe this a frog or dragonfly that just landed. Then start to pull the rod slowly towards you before reeling in the slack and repeat. You can switch up the rhythm as you do this if you are not having any luck.

Bass Fishing Tips with Jigs
Start by casting out your jig into and around grassy areas or weeds. The jig is the best lure for these areas because of its smaller hook and plastic body. Next, as you start your retrieve give the bait a few tugs then stop. Then slowly give it a few pulls then stop. Now continue doing this until you have reeled it back in.

Bass Fishing Tips with Poppers -
When you are casting poppers you will want to let it sit still for a few seconds after the initial hit on the water. Next, begin to tug and reel, tug and reel, and continue through the entire retrieve.

Bass Fishing Tips with Live Baits
Once you have got your rig baited, cast out close to where bass love to lie ( such as next to sunken tree logs ), reel up the slack, and then simply pull up a chair and wait. When you see your bobber start to go under the water set the hook in the basses mouth with a good tug. Now your ready to reel in your fish!

Now lets find you a great rod and reel that works best for bass fish, and is easy for beginners to use.....
We recommend the Wally Marshall Signature Series Spinning Rod and Reel Combo, Daiwa® Strikeforce® Low-Profile Rod and Reel Combo, and the Shakespeare® Synergy Ti10 Spincast Rod and Reel Combo. Each of these combos are relatively inexpensive for beginners who are just starting out, but still offer superb quality and reliability.

Next, lets get you set up with the best fishing lines available in our opinion......
You are going to find while shopping that there are a few different kinds of line to choose from like fluorocarbon, nylon monofilament, co-filament, braided, and fused. All of these work great at catching bass. We recommend you start with SpiderWire Ultracast Fluorocarbon Line, Gamma Touch Fluorocarbon Line, and Daiwa Steez Fluorocarbon Line. These work best for beginners and professionals alike.

Now, last but not least is the best bass fishing boat and trolling motor for a beginner. You are going to want to find the best price without all the bells and whistles, but one that is still made with quality and fishablity in mind.....
We beleive your best bet is to go with either Ranger Boats, Nitro Boats, or Tracker Boats for the best price and fishability. Add a Minn Kota Motor, or a MotorGuide Motor for a quality boat and moter combination.

We hope that you found our tips on bass fishing helpful and you learned something new that you can take to the lake or pond the next time you decide to go bass fishing with friend and family.
